Kyoki's Story
Chapter 1
Nightmares
Chapter 1
Nightmares
I remember when sleeping was easy, with no horrid images waking me up in the middle of the night. I hadn't had a dreamless sleep in a long time, in fact I can't even remember the last time I had a dreamless sleep. Well, that's a lie. I actually can...
I gave a gasp as a cold shower of water fell on me. "What the hell?!" I screeched, water dripping off my hair and cyan coloured skin. A female Na'vi was standing over me, a bucket in her hand.
"Morning princess," she smirked, her eyes blazing. She looked too happy at what she had just done.
"I didn't ask for a wake up call Lu," I hissed, getting up and squeezing my hair, being careful not to squeeze my queue.
"No, you didn't," Lu said, her smile disappearing. "Your mother did." My eyes widened. Oh... shit. That was not good. Neytiri did not like to be kept waiting.
"Oh Eywa," I gasped. "Is today Wednesday? Oh... crap!" I slipped out of my hammock and then went to put on some dry clothes. Lu kept talking whilst I went and changed.
"Neytiri is going to kill you. Officially," she reminded me. "This is the, what? Tenth time you've forgotten?"
"Okay Lu, rememeber when we were little and we promised to always be there for each other and talk to each other about our problems?"
"Yeah?"
"Yeah, let's not do that anymore," I snarled as I came out fully dressed. Lu gave a shrug. I sighed and then walked out the door. Sure enough, Neytiri was waiting with a book propped up on her lap. Geez, she must have gotten bored. She hated reading. She turned and looked at me, raising a perfect eyebrow. I was screwed. "Okay, please don't be mad, I have a perfectly good explanation..."
"Oh?" Neytiri said, pursing her lips. "And just what is that, Kyoki?" In another life, Neytiri would be a good police officer.
"Well...," I began, wondering how I could cover this up. "Well, you see I-I... I was, was..."
"Was, was? Was what?" Neytiri asked. She gave a sigh and gestured for me to sit down. I sighed and did as she said. Neytiri looked at me with disappointment. "Kyoki, you're going to be the future leader of the Omaticaya Clan. You need to be dedicated to your lessons."
It was my turn to sigh. "Mum, no matter how hard you try to teach me Na'vi it doesn't stick. It's starting to be a dying language anyway."
"That may be so thanks to your father," Neytiri said with a less-than-exuberant voice. She didn't approve of English becoming the main language of Pandora, but she was losing ground to Jake. She loved him so she didn't complain. Much. "But as future leader you still need to learn it." I gave a huff. Neytiri came and gave me a hug. "We're counting on you Kyoki to lead the clan. And your mate when you have one." I couldn't help but make a face. Ever since I turned sixteen mum was always talking about marriage and children. It was really starting to scare me. Marriage was the last thing on my mind, and children weren't ever on it. That wasn't going to change.
"Okay mum," I said. "I'll try." Neytiri gave me a warm smile and was about to add something else when Jake came over.
"What are my two girls up to?" He asked with a smile, kissing the top of my head and kissing Neytiri on the lips. I averted my eyes to focus on my feet.
"Nothing much," I replied, still staring at my feet. The moment they started feeling each other up I was out of there. "Nothing much," I replied. Jake gave a chuckle so I took that as my cue to be able to look at them again. "So since dad is here can I go now?" Neytiri gave me a look. "Please?"
"Let her go Neytiri," Jake told her. "You can't force someone to learn something." Neytiri purposely elbowed him in the stomach.
"Thank you daddy!" I said, giving him a hug. "I promise I'll learn later." Neytiri was about to retort but she then gave a wry smile.
"No problem," she said, looking behind me. "I think you'll find something else to do with your time." I raised my eyebrows and turned around. Oh shit.
"Morning, Princess," a male Na'vi greeted. Could this day get any worse...?
Chapter 2
Yol Kxetse
Yol Kxetse
His name was Yol Kxetse and he was the biggest asshole to walk the planet in my opinion. We'd hated each other since I was two and he was five. I honestly can't remember why we had this feud with each other, but we did and we had so for fourteen years so I didn't see the point in changing things now.
"Yol," I said without much of a glance at him. I could see Neytiri was smiling on the inside and fighting to keep it together. I shot her a dirty look before Jake spoke up.
"Well, your mum and I have to go see Norm today so we'll be going now," he said. I gave him a desperate look; he gave me a sympathetic look but it wasn't all sympathetic. I shot daggers at him with my eyes and then sighed.
"Fine, you guys have fun looking over... blue prints or whatever you're going to do," I said before walking off.
"Jake, Neytiri," Yol said with a slight bow before moving off with me. I did not plan my week to go this way. In fact, I didn't plan my life this way. Ever since I turned sixteen, dad had made Yol my bodyguard or as Yol put it, 'babysitter'. He figured he was right in doing that since most of the boys were a little dangerous around the girls if you catch my drift, but I would rather take my chances with them than having Yol to tag along all day. But one good side about having beside me for practically the rest of my life was it made all the girls jealous at least. Yol was hot. Okay, that was an understatement but at that point in my life and
my whole 'hating' him thing I didn't see it, even though the girls constantly reminded me. Anyway, Yol was the kind of hot that you stop to stare at in the middle of the street and then in turn get hit by a bus. If we had buses but you get my point.
"So what's your angle?" I asked. "Following me around all day?"
"Pretty much," Yol answered sullenly. "You know, I'm not so pleased about this arrangement either but you're going to have to deal with it."
"Not if I kill you," I replied softly. I heard him a give a sort of growl but he said nothing more. I walked over to the river where the Pa'li were grazing. I went over to one and stroked her. "Hey, Enyiq," I smiled, petting her soft nose. Yol sat down on a log and watched me.
"So since you're the Princess you get your own Pa'li?" He asked with a smirk.
"Don't call me that," I snapped, still petting Enyiq. "I only have Enyiq to myself because she hates everyone else."
"Sure she does," Yol said with a roll of his emerald eyes.
I let out a long sigh. "I don't need your commentary, you know. Why don't you go bug girls your own age?" I asked.
"Because they're all bitches," he replied simply. "Reminds me of you."
"Okay that's it!" I snarled, turning on him. I was seriously about to strike him across the face, but to be honest I was scared of what he would do to me if I did that. Then again, he would probably be kicked out of the clan for hurting me but you never know. Jake trusted him, which is why he was stationed as my bodyguard.
Yol looked at me with amusement. "You're so funny when you're angry," he told me. "You should go back to being Princess Bitch though. Anger doesn't suit you."
"I could have you kicked out for that!"
"And you wouldn't," he reminded me. "Because then you wouldn't have a punching bag and you'd go mentally insane."
"Oh please!" I growled, moving closer towards him and looking him in the eye. "I could find another guy like you anywhere." Anyone who overheard that bit of the conversation would no doubt get the wrong idea.
"You do that and tell me how that works out," he told me, standing up and looking down at me. I was about to give him a snappy comment when Lu came over.
"Oh Eywa, oh Eywa, guess what?!" Lu exclaimed, grabbing me by the shoulders and shaking me.
"Ooh, ooh! The fifth dentist caved and now they're all recommending Colgate?" Yol asked with a smirk. Lu raised her eyebrows and I gave a sigh.
"Ignore the imbecile. He makes comments like that to give his life a little bit of meaning for five seconds," I told her. Yol gave me a frown.
"... You guys are spending way too much time together..." Lu told us. I frowned at her. "Anyway, Som is having a party! Yay!"
"How in any way is that a reason for happiness?" I asked. Besides Yol, Som was the next biggest jerk on the planet. He had the hots for me though which really pissed me off.
"Wake up Kyoki!" Lu said, shaking me again. "Som! We're talking super hot Sommy!"
"Not working. I'm not going. Every time I'm with him he tries to grab my ass!"
Lu rolled her eyes. "Stop being such a girl!"
"I am a girl."
"You know what I mean! Please! I don't want to be a total loser and go alone! Why would you do that to me Kyoki? Why? Why?"
"Fine! Fine!" I growled, shaking her off. "But I'm keeping myself pressed against the wall the entire time." Lu gave a triumphant smile and gave me a hug.
"See you at dusk," she told me before moving off. I turned and saw Yol smirking.
"I was planning on ruining your day," he told me. "But I see someone else already has."
"Put a sock in it," I told him as I moved past him, flicking my tail in his face like a whip just under his eye.
Chapter 3
The Party
The Party
"Hey everyone," Ta'em Freinol, a healer in our clan greeted us. He was one of our closest friends, and Yol's best friend. Yol was sort of in our inner circle, but Lu and I were still hell bent on making his life miserable.
"Evening," I said. "Okay let's get this over with."
"It's going to be fine," Yol told me.
"If I want your opinion I shall ask for it," I replied simply as I walked past him. I heard him give a sigh and follow me along with the rest of us.
Som was having this little party thing of his a couple of kilometres away and it didn't take us very long to get there. Lu let out a little gasp as we came to the clearing. "Wow," she breathed like an excited fan-girl. "He knows how to throw a party!" I had to admit she was right. Som had gone over the top with this, especially with the decorating. Ribbons, streamers and so much else hung on the trees. It reminded me of a scene from Titanic and I had no idea why. The amount of people here was a little frightening, and it looked like Lu and I were the youngest ones which really sucked.
"I wonder where Mr. Hot Shot is?" I said casually and Yol gave a smirk.
"No doubt where all the girls are," he replied just as coolly.
"Shut up."
"Ooh, I sense jealousy?" He asked me. I turned to him with a dangerous look and was quite happy to see him back up a couple of steps. I smiled in triumph and then grabbed Lu's hand, tugging her away.
"Oi! Where we going?" She asked, taking a suspicious looking snack off a tray of food as I led her.
"To find Som," I said. "I haven't seen him in a few months."
"I thought you didn't want to see him?"
"I don't!" I said defensively. "I just want to humiliate him in front of his gaggle of girls."
"Ah, good thinking Agent 99," Lu said, munching on the snack.
"What on Pandora is that anyway?"
"I dunno. Kind of slimy. I think it's liver." I made a face and kept tugging Lu through the party, trying not to knock into anyone as I did so.
Sure enough, we found Som and his entourage of girls. He looked like a prince of Egypt, lounging whilst the girls fanned him with a palm-like leaf. Geez, how much of an ass was he? "Ah, Miss Sully!" He greeted with a smile that made me want to throw up. "How nice of you to join us."
"Yeah, I'm nice like that," I replied. Som gave a dark chuckle which I didn't like at all. Lu seemed to blush and then moved off. I grabbed her by the arm and whispered in her ear, "Please don't leave me!"
"Oh grow up!" She whispered back. "He's not that bad you know." Giving me a wink and a kiss on the cheek, she was off with me frowning after her.
"I'm surprised you brought your maid," Som said with a smirk. A dangerous look came over me and I resisted the urge to kick him where it hurt for calling Lu that. I shot daggers at him with my topaz eyes, a frown creasing my features.
"She is not my maid, she is my best friend," I snarled.
"Same difference," Som replied. He reached out to take my hand. "Oh baby, don't frown like that. You'll give yourself wrinkles early."
"I'm not your baby," I snarled, shaking him off. "And what do you care?" Giving him a dirty look, I flicked my tail and moved off. Unfortunately, he took that as an open invitation to follow me. "Don't you have to go back to your Playboy Bunnies?" I asked, rolling my eyes.
"My what?" He asked, looking at me as if I was nuts. Huh, looked like I knew more in the human area; I gave a triumphant smirk and kept on walking. "Where are we going?"
"It is not 'we', it is 'I'," I replied simply. "Me, myself and I. In fact, the only way we'd ever be in the same room together is if you strangle Lu and I end up on the jury!"
Som continued to look at me as if I belonged in a mental asylum. "Yeah... Sure," he said, pretending to understand what I was going on about. It was so funny to see him confused rather than being such a jerk like he usually was.
I sat down on a log on the outskirts of the party and he sat next to me. Eywa, he was annoying. It was even more annoying when he put his hand on my thigh. I sighed. "Som, take your hand off my thigh," I snarled. He did no such thing. "No, not up my thigh - off it!" He still didn't listen. "What the hell is the matter with you?!" I asked, standing up and looking down on him.
At that moment, Yol came up. I had never been more glad to see him. "I see you," he said, touching his fingers to his forehead and then extending it out. Even though a lot of human things had crept into Pandora, we still had some formalities. Som nodded and I smiled; Yol looked at me oddly when I did that. I never smiled at him, unless I was mocking him.
"Hey Yol!" I said exuberantly, which made him look at me even more weirdly.
"... You feeling alright?" He asked me.
"Fine! Come on," I said, taking him by the hand and tugging him away.
"Where are we - ?"
"Just get me out of here," I pleaded softly, leading him through the party like I had Lu a few minutes ago. Once we were out of Som's sight, Yol looked at me oddly. "What?"
"I don't know what just happened...," he said slowly.
"Ugh, I just needed to get away from that jerk," I replied, sitting down on a rock and crossing my legs.
"Why?"
"Did you not just hear what I said? Do you have your hearing aid turned on?" I sighed. "He was feeling me up. It's was... ick."
"Interesting," Yol replied sourly. "How did you get him to do that? Bat your eyes? Show him a little cleavage? Not judging; just wondering." I shot him a homocidal look. "Shutting up."
"Good." I replied, studying my nails. "Besides, aren't you meant to be protecting me from this kind of thing? Dad hired you for a reason you know." Lu came up then with a smile on her face, stopping Yol from snarling something back at me. "You look like a child that has been set free in 'Toys 'R' Us'. Why are you so happy?"
"Som smiled at me!" She said, breathless. Yol and I both groaned.
"Well, I have something that will break your crush on him. He thought you were my maid."
"Oh Eywa..."
"Exactly."
"You mean... He noticed me?!" She asked excitedly.
"Oh my gosh... I just want to slap and shake you!" I sighed.
"Who's slapping who?" Ta'em asked, coming over to our group, looking a little excited at the prospect of a bitch fight. Behind him was a very tall Na'vi girl. Na'vi are tall, say about ten feet. This girl had to be about thirteen feet, give or take and I have to admit I was a little intimidated by her.. She had her hair pinned back and she had a bone through her nose; very odd. She must have been royal, but usually only the male's had the bone through their nose in the Horse Clan.
"Hello," I said, extending my hand to take hers. "I'm Kyoki Sully."
"You are the Kyoki Sully?" She asked, looking at me in some sort of awe but also with a bit of skeptism.
Like there was any other freakin' Kyoki Sully. "Yes, that's right."
"I Akwey, Princess of Horse Clan," she said slowly. Her English wasn't the best, but I could see she was trying hard. At the time that ticked me off, but little did I know that in the next year or so, Akwey and I would become very close friends.
Chapter 4
After The Party
After The Party
It was a few weeks after the party. Clan life was normal, nothing had changed there. Everything was boring. As usual.
"So, what you guys got planned for tonight?" I asked as I sat down beside Lu.
Yol gave a shrug. "Nothing much. Watch over you, I guess," he sighed.
"You don't have to watch over me, you know. I can look after myself!"
"Yeah, but if I leave you alone Jake will personally kill me," he chuckled. I sighed.
"Alright, I'm going to go take a bath," I said.
"Thanks for the mental images," Yol frowned. I gave him a fake smile and departed, rolling my eyes.
Meanwhile
"So," I began, trying to start a conversation. Oh before we begin, I'm Yol Kxetse. I'll be telling some of this story, so you best get used to it. "What now?"
"Dunno," Lu replied, looking around. "I think we're all having a lazy day today."
"Amen to that," Ta'em said, a book propped up on his lap. I have to say, I can't really remember a time during that year when he didn't have one.
I sighed and got up. "Well, I don't plan on sitting around all day," I told them, getting up and going over to the river.
I can't fully remember what happened that day. I heard a yelp and I instinctively turned around, only to yelp myself.
I guess I forgot that Kyoki had gone to take a bath, so when I turned around I saw her. Undressed. "Oh Eywa! My eyes!" I yelped, quickly looking elsewhere.
"Eywa! What's the big idea?!" Kyoki snarled, quickly taking a weave and covering herself. "You just barge in here?! You have no respect for my privacy?!"
"Okay, Kyoki I know you're mad - "
"You think?!"
"Look, can I just say one thing?"
"What?! What?!"
"Well it's just that that's a relatively open weave and I can still see your..." I grimaced. "Nippular... area."
"Ugh!" Kyoki snarled before moving off.
Later
"Okay guys, anyone want something to drink?" I asked as I looked around at my friends.
"Ooh, I'll have a - " Yol began before I cut him off.
"No we're out of that. Anyone else?"
Ta'em took his nose out of his book long enough to look at the two of us. "Did I miss something here?"
"She's just mad at me because I... kind of walked in on her while she was bathing," Yol admitted. I whacked him over the head and went to sit down by Akwey, who was visiting us that day.
"What?!" Ta'em, Akwey and Lu asked in unison.
"What were you doing seeing her boobies?" Lu asked with a frown.
"It was an accident!" Yol snarled. "It's not like I was across the street with a telescope and a box of doughnuts."
"Look, can we change the subject, please?" I asked.
"Yeah! Because guys, these aren't her boobies, these are her 'breasts'," Akwey said, gesturing to my chest with her hand.
I gave a sigh. "Okay, Akwey honey, I was kind of hoping for more of a subject change..."
"Look, I don't know why you're so upset," Yol said. "They were very nice boobies."
"'Nice'?" I asked, looking at him. "They were nice? I mean mittens are nice!"
Yol gave a sigh. "In my next life, I'm coming back as a toilet brush...," he murmured before standing up and leaving.
Chapter 5
The Breakup
The Breakup
"Hello," I said as I walked into Kelutral. I went and sat down next to Ta'em. "How is everyone?"
"Eh," Kyoki replied, studying her nails.
"May I ask what is so intriguing about your hands?"
"Shut up," Kyoki growled, looking at me. I gave a small chuckle.
"So what is everyone up to tonight? Valentine's day."
"Nothing," Kyoki replied. Akwey nodded in agreement.
I looked at Kyoki in shock. "Wow. You without a date on Valentine's Day? What is happening to the universe?"
I felt Kyoki hit me over the head. "I don't know. No one asked me out."
"So why didn't you ask someone out?"
"... Because I've never asked a guy out before."
"You've never asked a guy out before?!" Akwey asked in shock.
"Why? Have you?" Kyoki asked, turning to look at our friend.
"Thousands of times!" Akwey said with a laugh. She then paused. "That doesn't make me sound too good, does it?"
"Not really," Ta'em chuckled.
"Well, Kyoki if it's any consolation, I'm not doing anything either," I said to her.
"Yeah. That helped a lot," Kyoki said sarcastically. I sighed.
"Not doing anything, huh?" Lu said with a smirk. "Not even, say, breaking up with Iyria?"
"Oh... Right that...," I said, pausing momentarily. "Shut up!"
"Yol, no one likes breaking up with someone. You just gotta do it!" Kyoki told me, looking at me.
"Well I've been with Iyria since I was fifteen. This is going to be hard..."
"Why do you have to break up with her anyway?" Ta'em asked.
"She's just... so annoying! I can't take it anymore! If I have to mate with her, I will loose my mind."
Our newest addition to the group, Eyktan, came over. He wasn't part of the Omaticaya clan, but was really a nomad going around other clans. He seemed to stay with the Omaticaya though. "You don't have to break up with her. Be a man! Just stop seeing her!"
Kyoki rolled her eyes. "Ugh. Men. I honestly cannot believe my mum is trying to set me up with one of you guys!"
Eyktan chuckled and sat down with us. Lu was the next one to speak. "Well, if you want, I'll do it with you!"
"Ooh, as good as that sounds, I fear Iyria may feel we are ganging up on her," I told Lu.
Lu chuckled and tossed her hair back. "No. I mean you break up with Iyria, I break up with Reun."
"Aww, you're breaking up with Reun?" Kyoki asked sadly.
Lu nodded. "Yeah... It's just not fun anymore! I don't know if it's me, or his hunger strike, I don't know..."
Kyoki looked at me; we both bit our lips and looked away so we didn't make the other crack up. "Sorry, honey," Kyoki said, hugging Lu.
"Alright, cool!" I said. "We can do that. Thank you!"
"You owe me, Yol Kxetse," Lu chuckled. I rolled my eyes and then departed.
"Where is she?" I asked, stressing out slightly.
"Hang in there," Lu said. "She may just be lost."
"I highly doubt that," I sighed, sitting down beside Lu. She put her hand on mine; that was odd.
"Oh, calm down," she said with a smile. Okay then... Kind of freaked out.
"Anyway," I said, quickly trying to distract Lu so I could take my hand out from under hers. "When is Reun getting here?"
"Soon, I hope. Oh, there he is!" Lu said.
"Okay, have a good break up," I said before getting up and leaving before Reun came. At that moment, Iyria came in. "Hey!"
"Oh, thank Eywa you asked me to come!" She said in a very sad tone. "I have had the most supremely awful day!" Oh shit. And I was about to make her day a million times worse...
"Oh?" I asked, trying to sound like the supportive boyfriend.
"Yeah," she sighed, coming to sit down beside me. "First of all, I found out my parents are getting a divorce." Wow. Ever since the humans came, divorce seemed pretty popular... What ever happened to 'mated for life'? I let it drop and went on listening to Iyria. "And, to top it off, my sister is just being a total bitch and is coming to live with me because her mate is, according to her and I quote, 'A pathetic excuse for a man'." I nodded along and then looked over at Lu and Reun. They seemed to be talking and then Lu hugged him and he left. I looked at her in shock. "What?!" I snarled under my breath.
"What?" Iyria asked, looking at me.
"... What kind of idiot would do that to your family?" I quickly said.
"I know!" Iyria sighed. "This totally sucks!"
"Yeah it sure does... I'll be right back," I said, before going over to Lu. "How the hell did you do that?!"
"I just said I didn't think it was working, he said okay and he left!" Lu said with a shrug.
I sighed. "Great..." This was going to end badly.
Meanwhile
"You know I kind of feel sorry for Iyria?" I said to Akwey.
"Really?" Akwey asked incredulously. "I thought you hated her."
"Oh I do," I said with a frown. "But still. Yol breaking up with her on Valentine's Day... Kind of harsh, huh?"
"Yeah..."
At that moment, Lu came in. "Wow. Quick breakup," I commented.
"Yeah. Poor Yol's still down there breaking up with Iyria."
"Really? It's been over two hours! What is he doing?"
"I have no idea," Lu said with a shake of her head.
"Well, hats off to him."
"Yep."
I sighed. I felt kind of bad for Yol in a way as well. Despite me still kind of hating him, he was still my friend in a sense.
"You think we should go help him?" I asked.
"No!" Akwey and Lu answered in unison.
"Fine!" I said, putting my hands up. I pictured Yol breaking up with Iyria. It wasn't pretty. I couldn't let him suffer like that. While it was tempting, I wasn't that cold hearted. "Okay. I'm going to help him." I quickly went out the door and shut it before I could hear Lu and Akwey's protests.
I dashed down the stairs to find Yol and Iyria still talking. This had gone on too long. I went over to them.
Yol looked at me in shock. "Kyoki, what are you doing here?"
"I just need to talk to you for a second," I said to Yol sweetly before hauling him off. "What the hell are you doing?"
"Breaking up with Iyria!"
"What breakup takes two and a half hours?" I snarled. "Just do it!"
Yol frowned at me. "Fine," he growled before going. I sighed and then went back upstairs.
Five hours later there was a knock at my door. I yawned and went to open the door, crossing the floor quickly. Yol was outside.
With a blackeye.
"Oh Eywa... Did she do that to you?"
"No. Your pa'li kicked me in the eye," Yol said sarcastically. I sighed.
"Come in," I replied. "Aren't you a warrior? I can't believe you let a girl punch you!"
Yol gave a snarl. "It wasn't one of my finer moments..."
"Sure it wasn't," I chuckled. "Sorry that's not funny."
Yol sighed. "Four years. I mean we were together four years..."
"Oh Yol," I said. "Another girl will come along. A better one. I promise."
Yol quirked a smile at that. "I'll hold you to that," he said. "Well, I better get going. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Alright," I said, opening the door for him. "Feel better." Once he left, I collapsed on my bed. I felt so bad for Yol and I didn't know why. Shaking my head, I closed my eyes and tried to go to sleep.
And I didn't get a minute of it all that night.
